About the service
What is Meddy and what does a companion do?
Meddy connects you with independent, healthcare-trained companions who go with your loved one to their hospital or clinic visit in Singapore.
Depending on your selected journey type, a Meddy companion will pick up the patient from home, meet them at the hospital, or both: waiting with them, accompanying them into the consultation room if needed, and sharing what the doctor said after the appointment.
Meddy is the booking platform; companions are independent and not Meddy employees.
What's the difference between a companion and a medical escort?
None, really. Both describe someone who goes with a patient to their medical appointment and stays with them through it. Many people in Singapore search for a “medical escort”, and that's exactly what a Meddy companion is.
We call them companions because “escort” can make it sound like a transport job: get the patient from A to B.
A Meddy companion is there for the whole visit - keeping your loved one company through the wait, sitting in on the consultation if they agree, and making sure you know what the doctor said.
What does a companion NOT do?
Meddy companions are not medical professionals and do not provide any form of medical care or treatment. They do not administer medication, give medical advice, or make clinical decisions.
They also do not help with transfers that need more than light assistance, such as moderate or maximum assistance, or lifting a patient in and out of a wheelchair. If your loved one requires this level of support, Meddy may not be the right fit.
Is Meddy a medical service?
No. Meddy is a companionship booking platform, not a medical service provider. The independent companions we match you with are there for support, navigation, and communication.
Eligibility
Which hospitals and clinics do you cover?
Island-wide: all hospitals, polyclinics, and specialist clinics across Singapore.
How is Meddy different from subsidised MET?
MET is a government-funded service for people who need help getting around and have no caregiver able to help. You apply through a referral from the hospital or polyclinic, and subsidies are means-tested.
Meddy is a private service you book directly, with no referral or means test. See our full comparison of Meddy and MET.
Who is suitable for Meddy?
Meddy is suitable for patients who can get in and out of a standard car with minimal assistance, can be briefly left alone (e.g. while the companion steps away), and are generally calm and cooperative.
It suits two main patient types: elderly patients attending routine check-ups, specialist visits, or polyclinic appointments; and patients recovering from surgery or managing ongoing treatment such as physiotherapy, chemotherapy, or dialysis. In both cases, a companion is typically needed because the family caregiver, an adult child or spouse, cannot attend every appointment in person.
Who is NOT suitable for Meddy?
We are currently unable to accommodate patients who need more than light help to get in or out of a car (moderate or maximum assistance, or needing to be lifted), have moderate to severe dementia or severe cognitive impairment requiring constant supervision, or exhibit aggressive or unpredictable behaviour.
If you are unsure, please WhatsApp us before booking and we will advise accordingly.
My parent uses a wheelchair. Can Meddy help?
Yes, if they can get in and out of a car with a little help while bearing most of their own weight - for example, standing up and pivoting from the wheelchair to the car seat. Your companion can push the wheelchair and help with these transfers.
If your loved one needs more help than that to transfer (moderate or maximum assistance), needs to be lifted, or must stay in their wheelchair for the whole journey, a wheelchair-accessible transport service is the safer choice. We don't offer this yet.
What if I am unsure whether my loved one qualifies?
Our eligibility criteria are listed above. If you are still unsure, please WhatsApp us before submitting a booking.
Share a brief description of the patient's condition and mobility and we will advise promptly. We would rather help you assess suitability upfront than have a booking fail on the day.
Booking
How do I make a booking?
Fill in our online booking form with the patient's details, appointment information, and your preferences. It takes under 5 minutes.
Once submitted, you'll see a PayNow QR code on the confirmation page and receive the same QR by email. Complete payment right away - we only start matching once payment is received.
We'll then match you with a companion and let you know via WhatsApp. If your appointment is 3 or more business days away, we'll match your companion at least 2 business days before it. If it's sooner, we match within 1 business day of payment. Either way, if we can't match you in time, you get a full refund.
Do I need a referral or a means test?
No. Meddy is a private service you book directly online. There's no referral, no application and no means test. The price is the same for everyone.
How much notice do I need to give?
We recommend booking at least 3 business days ahead - we'll then match your companion at least 2 business days before your appointment, or refund you in full if we can't.
Shorter-notice bookings are welcome, as long as you book at least 24 hours before your companion's arrival time. If your appointment is fewer than 3 business days away, we match within 1 business day of payment, subject to companion availability - and if we can't match you in time, you get a full refund.
How quickly will a companion be matched?
Once your PayNow payment is received, we start matching. If your appointment is 3 or more business days away, we'll match your companion at least 2 business days before it - companions usually commit closer to the date.
If your appointment is sooner than that, we match within 1 business day of payment.
Either way, if we can't match you in time, you get a full refund.
Can I make a booking on behalf of an elderly parent?
Yes, absolutely. Most of our bookings are made by family members on behalf of a parent or loved one. You will be the primary contact throughout the process and will receive all updates via WhatsApp.
Do I need to download an app?
No. Booking is done on our website, and updates come to you on WhatsApp. Nothing to install.
Pricing & payment
Why is Meddy's pricing so simple?
Because the price shouldn't depend on when you book. The $90 companion service fee is the same for every booking - weekday or weekend, booked weeks ahead or the day before. No urgency surcharges, no app subscriptions.
Everything else is shown on the booking form before you pay: door-to-door service and the ride fare if you need them, and the rate for any extra time. See How much does the service cost? for the price of each journey.
If we can't match a companion in time, you get a full refund.
How much does the service cost?
The $90 companion service fee covers a healthcare-trained companion for up to 3 hours from the appointment time, with visit details shared with you afterwards. What you pay depends on your journey:
Other charges, only if they apply:
- Early arrival: your companion's time before the appointment is included up to 1 hour for a home pick-up, or 30 minutes at the clinic. Earlier than that is $30 per hour.
- Companion arriving before 7am: $20 early transport surcharge.
- Overtime beyond 3 hours: $30 per hour, pre-authorised at booking.
The ride fare is calculated upfront. You'll see the full breakdown on the booking form before you pay.
Book a companionHow do I pay?
Payment is via PayNow only, collected upfront when you submit your booking. The QR code is shown on the confirmation page and emailed to you. Pay as soon as you can - we only start matching your companion once payment is received.
Your booking is only confirmed once full payment is received.
What if the appointment takes less than 3 hours?
Your companion is booked for the full 3-hour window, so any time left after the appointment can still be used for the patient. For example, your companion can:
- Pick up a few groceries for the patient near the drop-off address, within walking distance
- Help the patient buy a meal
- Keep the patient company, or sit with them over a meal before heading home
Any purchases are at your or the patient's own expense.
When asking your companion to buy a meal, please tell them exactly what to buy, including any food allergies or dietary needs. Companions are not responsible for any allergic reaction to food bought at your request.
The companion service fee stays at $90. It's a flat fee that reserves your companion for a 3-hour window from the appointment time, so it isn't reduced if the visit finishes early.
What happens if the appointment runs over the booked duration?
If the appointment runs past 3 hours, the additional time is charged at $30 per hour. You pre-authorise this at booking, so your companion stays as long as needed without interruption.
We'll follow up via PayNow for any additional time after the appointment.
What is not included in the companion service fee?
The $90 companion service fee covers the companion's time accompanying the patient, with visit details shared with you afterwards. It does not include:
- Other situational fees that may apply, such as door-to-door service, the taxi / ride fare, the early companionship surcharge or the early transport surcharge. These are shown on the booking form based on your journey.
- Additional time if the appointment runs longer than 3 hours, charged at $30/hr and pre-authorised at booking.
- Any medical fees, hospital charges, or pharmacy costs, which are settled directly with the healthcare provider.
Who handles payment at the clinic or hospital?
Payment to the clinic or hospital is the responsibility of the patient. Meddy companions are not authorised to handle this on your behalf.
Restructured hospitals and polyclinics: the patient can pay at the hospital payment kiosk (NETS or credit card) after the appointment, or settle the bill online via HealthHub at their own convenience.
Private clinics and hospitals: the patient can pay directly at the counter using their own NETS card or credit card. If the patient is unable to pay on the spot, your companion can send you the clinic's PayNow QR code via WhatsApp, so please ensure you are reachable at the time of billing.
The companion
Who are the companions?
Every companion we match you with is an independent professional with healthcare experience or formal healthcare training, and is a Singapore Citizen or PR - so they know their way around our hospitals and polyclinics.
They can speak with your loved one in English and, where you need it, Mandarin, Malay, Tamil or Chinese dialect.
All are identity-verified, interviewed, assessed and bound by confidentiality before their first visit.
Can I request a specific gender or language?
Yes. You can specify your preferred companion gender and language in the booking form. We will do our best to match your preferences, subject to availability.
Will the companion enter the consultation room?
This depends on your preference and the patient's consent. You can indicate in the booking form whether you would like the companion to accompany the patient into the consultation room.
If the patient declines on the day, the companion will wait outside and respect the patient's privacy.
Will the companion relay what the doctor said?
Yes, provided the companion attended the consultation. After the appointment, the companion will share what the doctor said: findings, advice, and any next steps. If you're there to meet your loved one, the companion will tell you directly. If not, they'll send it over WhatsApp.
This only applies if consent was given during booking. If consent was not indicated in the booking form, nothing will be shared by default. We respect the patient's right to privacy. If the patient also declines on the day, the companion will not share any consultation details regardless.
Is my personal information kept private?
Yes. All companions and Meddy staff are contractually bound by strict confidentiality obligations.
Your personal data is collected solely to facilitate the booking and service. We keep it only as long as we need it for your booking, any follow-up, and records we must keep by law, such as invoices. See our Privacy Policy for details.
Transport
Do I need to arrange transport?
No. Your companion handles all travel arrangements, including booking all Grab or taxi rides. The fare is determined based on your journey and charged as a fixed amount upfront.
A door-to-door service fee applies when your companion travels to and from the patient's home:
- One-way (pick-up or drop-off only): $20
- Two-way (pick-up and drop-off): $40
For Appointment only bookings (companion meets the patient at the hospital), no door-to-door fee applies.
Can I choose whether the companion picks up the patient or meets them at the hospital?
Yes. In the booking form, you can select one of four journey types:
- Full journey: companion picks up patient from home and accompanies them home after.
- Return home only: you drop off at clinic, companion accompanies patient home.
- Home pick-up only: companion picks up from home, you pick up at clinic.
- Appointment only: companion meets patient at clinic, no transport involved.
Cancellation
Can I edit or cancel my booking?
Yes. Your booking confirmation email contains a "Manage my booking" button. Tap it to edit your booking details or cancel.
You can edit your booking details up to 24 hours before your companion's arrival time. Within 24 hours of arrival, details can no longer be changed online - you can still cancel (see below) or WhatsApp us for urgent help.
Everything below is measured from your companion's arrival time (when they're due to arrive for the booking), not the appointment time. A companion can be booked to arrive early to accompany the patient, so arrival is when their commitment begins.
Cancellation refund policy:
- 24 hours or more before arrival: full refund.
- Between 1 and 24 hours before arrival: full refund minus a flat $60 late-cancellation fee.
- Within 1 hour of arrival: your companion is already committed, so the $90 companion service fee is non-refundable. The door-to-door fee, taxi / ride fare and any surcharges you paid are still refunded.
Online cancellation will not be available within the final hour, so please WhatsApp us and we'll cancel it for you.
What if the plan changes after my companion has started?
Once your companion has checked in, the booking is a job in progress rather than a cancellation.
If it's shortened partway - say the patient decides to head home early, or you pick up the patient yourself instead of having your companion escort them home - the $90 companion service fee still applies.
We then refund whatever didn't take place, such as the unused return trip and its taxi fare.
What if no companion is available for my booking?
If we are unable to match you with any companion at all after payment is received, we'll let you know via WhatsApp and issue a full refund to your PayNow account within 3 business days. You're welcome to submit a new request for a different date.
In the rare event that we are unable to fulfill a booking that has already been confirmed, you will receive a full refund and we will notify you as early as possible so you can make alternative arrangements.
